Charon Death
The following day...
Charon slowly unglued her eyes and stared blearily at the bedside clock, it was 11.30am. Her entire body hurt, even her eyeballs felt like someone had sand papered them but she managed to roll herself off the edge of the bed. She groaned as she stood upright, pulling her right arm in close to her ribs to ease the pain a little, she walked slowly and carefully towards the shower managing to haul off her clothes despite the pain.
She spent a good quarter of an hour just standing under the forceful spray willing it to pummel some of the pain away, the pain wasn’t half as bad as she thought it might be and the plus side was that she healed twice as fast as a normal human, so she figured the ribs would be properly healed within a couple of weeks. She grinned inwardly to herself as she thought about her match with Kizmat, she had actually enjoyed it, it had been a huge challenge without causing her too much damage and it had shocked the whole arena and especially the roster. Yes, they could both wrestle extremely well in their own right and yes, they knew each other much better than people could even guess. They had trained together many times but very few people were privy to this information.
She finally made her way out of the shower, opened up the wall cabinet and popped a couple of pain killers from a bottle sat on the second shelf.
As she waited for them to kick in she considered what she was going to tell Augustus about the scars, in the end she decided it might be worth telling the truth for once.
Augustus was in the kitchen boiling the kettle, he had already prepared a mug of tea for her as soon as he'd heard the shower in her room kick in. She wandered in wearily and sat down in the nearest chair and he plonked the mug down in front of her. She wrapped her hands around the mug and wondered where she ought to start, Augustus sat down opposite with a mug of strong black coffee. She looked up at him and grinned as she took a sip of her tea.
"I guess I owe you an explanation."
It was a statement of fact not a question and Augustus merely shrugged.
"Charon, it really isn't any of my business but it did make me wonder why you hide all those scars?"
Charon picked up on the dual meaning in the question, he was talking mental scars as well as physical. She sighed heavily.
"Morty is one evil son of a demon whore. When I was a kid the most hated person in our house was Spade because he seemingly went to the dark but now I realise that Morty chose him, Spade had no choice even though at the time he thought he did. Do you see what I mean?"
Augustus furrowed his brow taking in the statement.
"Yeah, what you're saying is that Morty is able to control the way you think so you'll make the decision he wants while making you beleive that its your decision - your fault in a way. Yes?"
Charon nodded in the affirmative.
"He made my father beleive that Spade had always been evil but something went wrong, he couldn't get what he wanted from Spade so I was next on his list of Death children. Spade was a young man, I was just a kid about 4 years old when Morty took me. No word to my father just kidnapped me and made my father beleive I was dead. In reality, I was in my own personal hell."
She paused and took a drink of the tea, she stared at the liquid in the mug and swirled it round for a couple of minutes before continuing.
"He did everything he could to try and make me accept the darkness but I was as stubborn then as I am now, in fact probably more so."
Augustus snorted, a small grin on his lips.
"That would have been something to see."
Charon grinned with him.
"Anyway, when mere pain and images of death didn't work he started using physical torture, he would make Spade watch, sometimes he would make Spade actually take part. That man cried so much I'm surprised he didn't flood the place, I felt sorry for him because he had accepted the darkness and couldn't do anything to stop, he had to do as he was commanded because that's what accepting the darkness is about - control by Mortis. Morty found it highly amusing, of course he would, one family member torturing another must have been really funny to him. Eventually, when I was six he did something I had been dreading for some time, he threatened to kill Spade if I didn't accept the darkness. Of course it was all a lie but I allowed myself to become part of the unholy darkness. He had control but not for long because his control began to slip, once I got out of there I was told that he could never fully control me because of when I was born. I was born on the very last strike of midnight exactly between the hours of darkness and light so I could never truly belong to either the light or the dark. Ironic really."
