Fein Dacor had just left, it was late and both Augustus and Kali were asleep somewhere within the walls of the old mansion house. Charon sat in the office chair behind her fathers old desk, she leant back for the fifth time since Fein had left and stared at the ceiling. Now that Mortismere knew Kizmat had protected her, even if he didn't know why, he was bound to either send someone here or may even come here himself. She had numerous options but sending Augustus away was really the only decision she had reached so far. There was no other way forward, she would have to shut the mansion down, it would give them all time to retreat and re-group. Mortismere wasn't known for keeping his word as Kizmat well knew and so he might kill Kizmat anyway but then the fact Kizmat was hiding something from him might make Morty curious enough to allow him to live. Her head span and her thoughts raced round in circles as her fingers drummed the arms of the chair. She reached a decision suddenly, the idea just seared its way through all the others and plonked its fat backside down and announced 'eat me'. She grinned.

It was now about 3am, she went and woke Kali, Tawiscara squawked indignantly and hopped ungainly along the floor. Kali looked blearily at Charon. Charon raised her finger to her lips and shushed her before she started to speak.

"Listen carefully. Go and get Augustus, tell him to pack only what he needs, essential items like clothes otherwise all he'll take is gadgets. I want you to take him to your people, put him under their protection and guidance. Its time he knew exactly who he is and what he can do. Mortismere has imprisoned Kizmat so time is of the essensce right now. Please for the first time in your life please don't argue with me and just do this for me?"

Kali nodded and swung her legs out of bed. Charon literally flew back down the sweeping staircase and back to the study. She punched the wall next to a bookcase and the bookcase swung forwards. She took some of the weapons from their cases and secreted them within the old desk before swinging the bookcase back in place. Kali and Augustus were now standing in the doorway. Kali spoke first.

"I have no way of getting back to my people, you of all people know this."

Charon half grinned.

"I can only apologise but Doc built some sort of portal that opens directly in the heart of your world. I'm sorry I never told you but he said it should only be used in an emergency and I would constitute this as a dire emergency."

Kali glared at her for a second.

"Fine. open it and lets get going."

Augustus didn't seem too happy.

"I don't want to go, I like it here."

Charon sighed.

"Look, go with Kali, I'll catch you up at some point. Right now things are too finely balanced to risk tipping things one way or the other. Now go or I'll knock you stupid and throw you through the portal myself!"

She watched them go and then sat back down at the desk and waited patiently.
