Deep In Thought...

[TF: Moments before the King of Pain match]

Darkness settled over the arena and the fans awaited what could be one of the best matches in quite some time. However, off camera, sitting in the locker room, was one of the contestants in tonight’s brutal King of Pain…

Gojinn had been waiting on this match for a long time now. It was one he was unsure of re-competing in. He’d been through this hell before, and with the contestants stepping in, he was truly fearful of the end result. He sat in silence in his locker room, his things hanging behind him in a small cubby. The steel chair he sat on, was centered in the middle of the locker room, under the light in there, which was turned out. The television was directly in front of him. It, too, was turned off.

He scoffed, hearing “Not Meant For Me” playing through the arena louder than ever now. No doubt a promo from past KOP’s was being shown. It was an event he’d competed in one time and one time only since his debut. It had actually only happened once since his debut, and his own partner, a member of the Outsiderz at the time – Kalvain – had won. People were still cloudy on how it happened, but he screwed Gojinn out of winning it. The King had been beaten and it was all his fault. Still, it wasn’t the fact he was beaten that had him pondering if he should withdraw from this match. It was the other competitors, it was the match itself, it was wrestling altogether. He’d made far too many enemies in the past few years, and lost his friends. He’d built himself this pedestal, on the careers of other superstars he’d defeated, and on gold laced leather belts. He created this persona, this egomaniac hell-bent on destroying all in his way. He started to realize that he was becoming like the people he hated so much. Past superstars he told to stop bragging about beating people that didn’t matter.

He was slowly becoming that which he loathed, and it scared him for a moment.

He wasn’t sure about staying around much longer. He’d been pondering a complete disappearance, for quite some time. He looked at his career, and how he tore through to the top so fast, and how it seemed to just end there. There was nothing more to prove. He’d done it all, and been at the top of the mountain. He understood why certain superstars had retired right in front of him, when they seemed to be so good at what they did. It was this train of thought that made him realize what he was thinking in the back of his head all along. Sure he was good at this, but he was better at other things.

He’d been such a dark, yet heroic figure for so long, and then turned dark in the midst of all the chaos about his past. He had killed so many, for good and evil reasons, and he realized that it didn’t matter the motive- he was good at killing. He’d been a hitman for quite some time, and he had actually liked doing that more than wrestling. It was easier for him to follow someone, and get a perfect fix on when to kill them, rather than beat someone who was expecting it. Maybe it was the ease of killing someone who wasn’t expecting it. Fighting took skill, power, energy. He knew he liked wrestling for those reasons. Why the hell was he doing this!!???

He stood quickly, kicking the chair behind him, and shoving the TV off it’s stand to the floor. The fury within him burned bright.

It was his past, his present, his future…

He didn’t know who he was, who he would be, and he was slowly hating himself for it every moment that passed. He didn’t know where he’d come from truly, nor if he would truly become the Reaper in the future as he’d seen before. Did he have a purpose here? Did he even mean anything to this world? He wasn’t sure anymore. All these questions and no answers to any of them… It was slowly tearing Gojinn apart- changing him. Why had things happened the way they did? He wasn’t sure whether this was all some dream, or a reality anymore. He prayed every moment that he would wake up, but he never did.

A knock was heard on his locker room door.

”Gojinn sir, the King of Pain is next.”

That was it then. He had no more time to think.

He’d won the Kreature of the Ring before, the Undisputed Championship twice—it was time he became the King of Pain.

Gojinn sighed, and grabbed a bottle of water, unscrewing the lid, as he opened the door, and a bath of light illuminated him and the previously shadowed locker room…
