Help
When I first discovered them, they seemed to be little more than a crazed fan of my non-wrestling 'work'. After studying my 'work' for an amount of time that I understand to have been at least a few months, they finally decided to kill some people themselves over the course of several weeks, using some of my characteristic techniques in the process.
I don't believe the police ever pinned the crimes on me, as their 'work' was much sloppier than my own, but they did immediately notice the similarities between their 'work' and mine. When the police announced to the press that they thought they had a copycat of moi, the Chainsaw Killer, on their hands, they had my full attention. I wanted to know many of the same things that they did, such as who the copycat killer was and why they'd decided to copy me.
Wanting to get to them before the police could, I began attempting to track them down. But with nothing to really go on that might've led me to my copycat, I was going to have to try to simply catch them in the act. Of course, this being a major city with thousands, if not millions of locations that any amateur could perform a good kill at, tracking them down wouldn't actually be simple at all. And I was certain that they were an amateur. I even thought that it was pure luck that they hadn't been arrested yet.
To start, I contacted a man known as Wang, who works as a deliveryman for a local Chinese restaurant and also happens to sell weapons and other supplies, such as police scanners, right out of the back of his delivery van.
Once I had my hands on a police scanner, I began cruising the streets at dusk every night, listening to the scanner constantly, not going back home until dawn to rest up for the next evening. Luckily, I only had to do this for a few nights before I got a break.
It was a little after 2:00 AM when there was a report that a night security guard discovered a man being attacked by a masked assailant. The suspect fled when the security guard appeared, but not before burying an axe in the victim's face.
As soon as I heard where the location was, I sped off towards it, knowing exactly where it was and the quickest way to get there. Being a serial killer, knowing the layout of the city you 'work' in like the back of your hand is invaluable knowledge. Fortunately, the location wasn't very far away either. It would take me only a couple minutes to get there, as long as I didn't encounter any trouble, like the police.
The drive there was uneventful. When I arrived, the police weren't there yet. In fact, the only person in sight was the recently deceased. The guard was probably hiding inside somewhere until the police showed up, afraid that the suspect might return to silence their only witness. I had a feeling they wouldn't return though. Judging by the distance of the sound of the approaching sirens, they still had at least a couple more minutes before the first officer would arrive on the scene, so they could probably elude the police once again. They weren't going to elude me though.
Quickly parking my car a few blocks down from the crime scene, I ran back to the body and, with the help of my enhanced senses, tried to figure out what direction they went in. The alley that the body was partially laying in seemed like the most logical way to go. I was picking up a faint scent that seemed to be mix of perfume and sweat that seemed to lead through the alley and there was also a knocked over garbage can in the alley, indicating to me that someone in a hurry might've passed through.
The fact that I was smelling perfume made me wonder if the suspect was a woman.
Heading down the alley, I checked for any other signs of their presence as I ran. When I turned a corner, I noticed a door that had been kicked open, the scent leading through the doorway. Entering the building that the door belonged to, I found myself in a dimly lit room that looked like a kitchen, and after moving through it some, I realized that I was in a restaurant.
Making my way through the kitchen, mostly using the suspect's scent to navigate by, I soon ended up in the dining area. Judging by how it looked, it was some fancy, expensive restaurant, but I wasn't there to eat, so I turned my attention back to the task at hand.
The suspect's scent brought me to a hallway with several doors lining it, all closed. The scent once again provided me with an answer as to where to go next though. Walking up to door that the scent basically pointed to, I carefully pushed it open to find stairs going upwards. Entering the stairwell, I started cautiously climbing the steps, certain that the suspect was very near now. At the top was another door, which I also carefully opened, only to be greeted by the cool breeze of the night.
Stepping out on the rooftop, I was slightly confused. The scent seemed to end here, but the suspect wasn't here. I highly doubted that they'd landed a helicopter or something up here to escape in. I was about the have a look around on the rooftop to see if I could figure out where they went next when I suddenly sensed movement behind me.
Spinning around, I realized that I'd done so just in time, because the suspect was swinging their axe at me. I managed to grab the axe handle with both hands though and easily forced it against the suspect's throat before slamming them back against a wall, choking them with the axe handle.
"Who the fuck are you and why the fuck are you copying me?"
?????: "I...admire...you..."
"Thanks, but how about you tell me why you're really doing this before I end up choking the life out of you and leave another body for the cops?"
?????: "I...need...help..."
"No shit?!"
?????: "Your...help...please...!"
Sighing, I pulled back slightly on the axe, but still keeping a firm grip on it, so that they could speak easier.
"Help you how?"
?????: "I stole this old doctor's bag and afterwards, I started getting these strange...visions...of you...Red...and I got the sudden urge to...kill. It's like a drug..."
An old doctor's bag? Strange visions? The urge to kill? Fuck.
And now that I could hear them clearer, I realized the voice belonged to that of a woman and upon closer inspection, that their body had the shape of a woman's, although it was difficult to tell with the outfit they currently had on.
?????: "Don't ask me how I knew it was you in the visions. It just sort of...came to me. And I didn't know how to contact you, but I knew I could get your attention...this way...
"Well, now you have my attention. How the hell do you think I can help you though?"
?????: "I don't want to...kill. It's ruining my life. Can you help me control whatever this...urge is...or stop it completely...?"
For a moment, I did nothing. But then, I lowered the axe. I didn't return it to her just yet though.
"Take off your mask."
It was a simple black ski mask. Much less gruesome than the masks I sometimes wear during my 'work'.
"What's your name?"
?????: "April."
"Follow me and do exactly as I say or I'll do something worse to you than what you've done to any of your victims. Understand?"
She nodded her head. I started to walk back to the stairwell, but then I stopped again.
"Oh, and why'd you come up here? Couldn't you have just gone out the front door of this place?"
April: "A shutter covers the front entrance."
"Guess we won't go that way then..."
And we couldn't go back the way we came. The police were no doubt all over the crime scene now and would probably be in the restaurant soon too once they discovered the door she kicked open.
I walked over to one edge of the roof, peering over the side, with her following me.
April: "So you're going to help me?"
"I...don't know.
I really didn't know. I wanted to help her since I knew exactly what she was going through, but I didn't know if there was anything that could be done for her. With me, I'd already been a serial killer for years before I discovered that old doctor's bag, so there was no want or reason to stop on my part.
Finding what I was looking for, I pointed at a fire escape that led down into another part of the alley.
"There. We can get down from here that way."
With the axe in one hand, I started climbing down first, her coming right after me. At the bottom, there was a bit of a drop between the ladder of the fire escape and the ground, so I dropped down first, landing in a crouch. After a quick glance to my left and right to make sure that no cops were in this part of the alley yet, I stood back up and motioned for her to drop. I caught her as she fell to avoid any unnecessary injuries, like her landing wrong and spraining or even breaking an ankle.
Moving towards the nearest exit to the street, we stopped just inside of the alley and I peeked around the corner. There was one cop walking away from us, shining his flashlight anywhere he thought April might be hiding. Making her wait in the alley, I crept up behind the cop and swung the axe into the side of his neck, cleanly decapitating him. His head rolled off into the bushes as his body collapsed to the ground, blood squirting from his neck. Pushing his body and flashlight into the bushes as well, I motioned at April again, who had been peeking around the corner of the alley this whole time to watch me 'work'. She jogged towards me and I waited for her to catch up.
"Alright, my car isn't far from here. Hopefully we won't run into anymore cops, but if we do, let me take care of them."
She nodded again and we moved along the sidewalk, looking out for any other cops. After a few blocks, I led her through a basketball court, able to see through the chain link fence that my car was parked on the other side of it. When we reached the car, I looked back at where the crime scene was and saw that the police were all over it and a couple reporters had already shown up too. They didn't notice us, but I'm sure that if we had stood there for long enough, they would've eventually.
"Get in."
I returned her axe to her before she did and then got in myself. Starting the engine, I drove away, not speeding to avoid attracting unwanted attention, and the cops and reporters remained completely oblivious to our presence.
When we were on the expressway and headed to my mansion, I turned my head to say something to her, but I found that she had fallen asleep. I wasn't surprised though. I imagined that after what she'd been suffering through lately, finding me was a huge relief to her, even if I wasn't sure I could do anything for her.
