March Saturday 13th 1999

Things have quietened down a bit. The guards grabbed me as I was going to the library and threw me in with her for a laugh, they thought she would try and rip me apart but she just stood there and stared at me for ages. I still don’t know her name but she is really pale and looks really ill. I don’t think she’s had anything to eat.
When she didn’t attack me one of the guards opened the door and made the mistake of stepping inside and she went absolutely crazy, she launched herself at him and tried to bite his face. He pushed her away and she fell over but it didn’t stop her from kicking at his shins as he tried to leave. I helped her to sit up because they still hadn’t dared to take the straight jacket off, so I unbuckled it and again I told her what my name was because it seems to help her in some way.
Up close the impression of her eyes being far away in some place else was even more pronounced, when she looks at me there is some puzzlement before her eyes glaze over again. I got her some food but she wouldn’t pick it up or I think she doesn’t realise what it is or perhaps she doesn’t see it, I’m not sure but she let me feed her.

March Monday 15th 1999

The ugly bitch in charge of the Asylum “asked” me to come to her office for a “chat” This normally means she wants to have the guards beat me stupid while she laughs but this time she really wanted to talk to me.
She has asked me to take care of the woman in the padded cell, I asked her what the ladies name was but she said they didn’t know and she was simply listed as Jane Doe. I might ask her what her name is, see if she can remember or even knows who she is.

March Wednesday 17th 1999

They actually gave ME a key to the cell and told me I was totally in charge as no one else could get anywhere near her! I couldn’t believe it, I thought it might be a stupid trick but the key really is the cell key and I now let myself in and out when I need to.
I thought about letting the woman out and letting her run riot through the “hospital” but then I thought about how much damage she might do to herself and continued to try and talk to her. I asked her what her name was but she just stood and stared at the padded wall and at regular intervals would walk into the wall despite my best efforts to stop her doing it.
