No Safe Haven

While leaving was probably for the best, Sheri wasn't listening. From their hiding spot behind a large pipe, she could see the faint outline of their masked attacker.

"Sheri, come on!" Deadblood tried to keep his voice low despite also feeling panic.

He soon realized why she wasn't listening. Another nearby large pipe ripped free from its old welding and rolled towards the masked man. He turned around at the noise, but even his quick reflexes and ability to shield himself weren't enough to save him from being run over by the rapidly rolling pipe.

“Go!” she hissed, shoving Deadblood forwards, turning her attention back to just long enough to confirm that the pipe had made its intended connection before scrambling after Deadblood.

They tore through the dimly lit sewer as if Hell itself were on their heels, which wasn’t too terribly far from the truth. Sheri had seen firsthand what the man was capable of, powers that made her own seem somewhat crude and primitive in comparison, and the freaky machine was equally as terrifying in it’s own way. Even if they were not working in concert with each other, the fact was that both definitely wanted them dead, and would stop at nothing to achieve that goal.

Both were infuriatingly persistent as well. She and Deadblood could run forever, and neither of their enemies would ever give up.

"Up there!" DB pointed at a ladder and they both ran towards it. Hopefully it was a way out. They needed a way out.

Sheri rushed up the ladder and he followed her. Another tunnel.

"Shit!" she said. "This place is never-ending! Next time, I'm choosing the hiding spot!"

"You didn't have to follow me!" He glanced behind them, able to hear noises in the distance, unable to tell if they belonged to a cyborg, a masked killer, or were just the normal sounds of a sewer.

"Oh that would have gone well!" She let out a sarcastic laugh.

"Come on, let's go!" Deadblood started running again, Sheri following again.

They didn't get far however because when there was a crunch of metal on metal at the start of the tunnel they'd climbed into, they knew exactly who it was. DB grabbed her and pulled her down onto the floor of the filthy tunnel as bullets from the mini-gun came for them.

Sheri winced as they struck the floor hard, the bullets whizzing through the air over them like an angry swarm of hornets. She squirmed under Deadblood’s weight, clawing for purchase on the ground to scramble away from that fucking crazy robot that she loathed more with every passing second.

“Stay down!” he hissed, as the hail of bullets continued. Although every cell within her screamed for her to do otherwise, she obeyed, her pulse pounding in her temples like a hammer as the onslaught continued.

She glanced around quickly for something, anything to use to defend them from the approaching cyborg, but found nothing.

It didn't matter whether Sheri found anything or not because there was a sudden explosion that rocked the tunnel, the bullets stopping.

"I thought it lost the grenade launcher?!" She squirmed underneath DB again, trying to crawl forward along the tunnel.

"I don't think that was a grenade." Letting her go finally, he looked behind them and in the dim light, he could see that the mini-gun along with what had remained of its right arm were completely missing. The gun appeared to have malfunctioned, probably from the damage it had taken from fighting them, and had exploded.

Cautiously, Deadblood climbed to his feet, as did Sheri.

"Think it's dead?" She remained behind DB, not curious enough to get closer to it.

"How would I know?" He sighed, happy to have even the smallest of breaks. "Maybe."

Before he could say or do anything else, CP-ZERO twitched and began to move towards them. It picked up speed as it limped along until it was running and ended up charging right into Deadblood with its still partially armored left armed. This caused both it and DB to crash through a grating, falling down into a pit. The splashing sound that followed did nothing to relieve Sheri as she stood in the opening of the broken grate.

"DEADBLOOD!"
