Desperation (Finale)

Standing in the doorway was Sheri. And next to her, the masked man. Weaponless, Deadblood's immediate reaction was to back away.

"Sheri, what the hell are you doing???" DB tried to feel the under the water with his feet for another piece of debris to use to defend himself.

"Give me your hand, dipshit." The masked man extended both of his own hands down towards DB. "You didn't think I was going to let that can-opener kill you, did you, Thunder? I couldn't let that happen after all my hard work."

"Do it, Deadblood!" Sheri said. "He can help us!"

"Help us with what? I took care of the cyborg." DB remained out of the masked man's grip.

"If you don't give me your hand, I'm going to shoot you in the head right here and now." The masked man tilted his head slightly to one side as DB's eyes widened.

Before DB could argue further though, CP-ZERO rose up out of the water. Sheri covered her mouth in horror at what she saw. DB clubbing the cyborg's helmet with the rebar had caused the helmet to break, falling off of its head entirely. Underneath was a human head. It was hard to tell really though, due to the heavily rotting flesh that had peeled down much of its face, leaving behind exposed muscle and bone.

Deadblood didn't have to look behind him to know CP-ZERO was back up. Leaping forward, he grabbed the masked man's hands, who yanked him out of the storm water and onto the metal platform next to Sheri. Quickly, the three of them grabbed the handle of the metal door and slammed it shut to buy themselves a little time.

“Did you... did you just see what I saw?” Sheri whimpered, unable to believe that despite the extensive damage and rot had not stopped the juggernaut pursuing them. “What the fuck is he?!”

“Not sure, but whatever it is, it’s nasty.” the masked man replied, glancing at the door. It wouldn’t hold for long, and while they were safe for the moment, some plan of action needed to be decided on, and quickly. “And even in the shape it’s in, that door isn’t going to stop it. Not by a long shot.”

“It won’t give up, it won’t die, I don’t know if it even can die.” Sheri turned to Deadblood, the panic clear in her voice. “It’s gonna come right through that door, and it’s gonna...”

“It’ll keep coming,” Deadblood held a hand up, finishing for her. “But look, it’s damaged. Yes, it keeps getting up, and it keeps coming, but it can be damaged, you saw how bad it was back there.”

Loud bangs began to the occur from behind the door. "If you both want to survive that thing, I suggest you follow me."

The masked man took off down the grimy concrete and metal hallway. DB looked at Sheri. "Come on, before it breaks through."

They both followed after the masked man, finding themselves in a room lined with smaller pipes, at least smaller compared to the other sewage pipes.

"Maybe we can do something in here." The masked man followed the pipes, examining them. "I think these carry natural gas."

"That would be helpful, if we had a way to ignite them with blowing ourselves up." DB, with Sheri next to him, simply watched as the masked man continued his way around the room, examining a couple of barrels also in the room.

"Don't tell me you're afraid of death, Thunder." The masked man stopped and looked at him. "I know you've died before. I'd think that experience knocked some of the fear out of you."

They all heard a loud crash as the heavy, metal door came off of its track. CP-ZERO was free, its slow, slower than before, heavy footsteps heading down the hallway to them.

"Guys, what the fuck are we going to do?" Sheri looked at both of them.

“I don’t know, but something would probably be better than nothing! Here it comes!” the masked man replied, as the footsteps grew louder as CP-ZERO drew closer. Deadblood glanced at the barrels that the masked man had earlier inspected, pondering whether or not they would be useful.

“What’s in there, does it say?” Deadblood asked, the masked man still inspecting the canisters.

“Doesn’t say exactly, but that looks promising,” he replied, gesturing to the Hazardous Materials sign on the side of the barrel. Deadblood considered, and turned to Sheri.

“What do you think?” he asked, as the heavy metal footsteps grew even closer.

“Any port in a storm,” she replied, concentrating on the heavy barrel just as CP-ZERO rounded the corner. With a mental shove, she sent the barrel flying towards him, the lid wrenching free and drenching the cyborg in the toxic goo contained within.

All three stared at the cyborg as it stopped, the toxic waste dripping from its frame. Fumes fill the air around it as the goo reacted to the metal and meat.

"I think it's working! Throw the other one!" DB glanced at the masked man, whose attention was focused entirely on CP-ZERO at that moment.

Sheri concentrated on the second barrel and a moment later, its contents were also splashed onto CP-ZERO. The cyborg fell to one knee. And then rose back up, walking slower and more rigid than ever towards them.

"How's it not dead?!" Deadblood and Sheri started backing away. The masked man didn't.

He waited for CP-ZERO to get closer before pulling out the compact version of his katana and taking a swing. Somehow, CP-ZERO managed to raise its toxic goo-covered armed to block the blow before grabbing the masked man by the throat, lifting him high into the air, squeezing tightly, not to just choke him but to crush his neck.

"Sheri, get out!" DB suddenly said. "Get out now!"

Sheri didn't know what DB had planned, but did as he said, running back down the hallway they'd just come from.

Hands in front of him, Deadblood launched a stream of crimson light at both the masked man and CP-ZERO. The masked man must have been using his powers to shield himself as the stream simply rushed around him again rather than disintegrating him. The force of the blast however was enough to knock CP-ZERO off of its feet, sending both of them flying back into the gas pipes, an explosion rocking the chamber on impact. Chunks of metal and gore flew through the air. It would take the company weeks to sift through everything, but it was certain that at least some of the parts once belonged to CP-ZERO.

Sheri sat up from the floor in the hallway, the explosion having knocked her off her feet. She approached the chamber, the air hot from the explosion pressing against her. She thought the worst: Deadblood had killed himself to rid them of both CP-ZERO and the masked man. She was soon proven wrong when he stumbled from the smoke, coughing and holding his ribs in pain. There were black streaks on his face and a fresh cut on his forehead.

"Now let's get the fuck outta here."
