Charon looked at Spade closely.
"A lot of things have changed and I have had plenty of time to reflect on the past. You and I aren't that different, although I wasted a lot of time, squandered it on youthful pursuits. Now though..."
The sentence trailed off.
"Anyway! Like I said, the past is the past. Do you fancy a cup of coffee? Tea maybe?"
Darkspade was thrown momentarily by the sudden shift in conversation, he sensed she was hiding something from him. On one hand he felt he needed to know but there was a part of him that told him to stay the hell away from whatever it was. He mentally shook his head to clear it and to follow the conversation. He felt she had two different and separate parts to her personality, one was the sunny, bright happy go lucky Charon and the other was the nasty, evil, dark Charon. He knew she had always had these personalities but now they seemed even more pronounced than ever. She stared at him questioningly.
"Oh! Sorry, erm...coffee please, make it strong and black."
Talking with Charon had always been a bit of an up hill struggle for him because of the sudden switches in personality. He tried to turn the conversation back to Mortismere.
"Charon. I know you're hiding something from me and to be honest what were you thinking marrying Creeper?"
Charon kept her back to him as the kettle boiled. She poured out two mugs and handed one to him and then stared at him like she was trying to read his very soul.
"Spadey, let me just say this. You won't find a marriage certificate."
She raised her eyebrow and walked past him towards the living room....
