Charon Death
Gadgets and Gizmo's
Charon uncharacteristically took Spade by the arm and ushered him from the living room. They were walking towards the back of the house, the kitchen he guessed. Charon was deep in thought, she didn't really like Gojinn, she certainly hadn't liked his "little" warning at the arena. Why would he bother to warn her when anyone who knew anything about the Death family would have realised she had very little to do with Darkspade as a general rule.
She stopped just as they got through the kitchen door, she steered Spade to one side, turned and held the ring against a small slot in the door frame. The panel slid to one side and a lift door hissed open. Confined spaces made Spade nervous, especially sharing that space with Charon. She stepped in apparently oblivious to his worry. He stepped into the lift warily and the doors closed behind him, he felt the vibration beneath his feet and the lurch in his stomach told him they were going down. He had no idea there was more to the mansion than what they had destroyed above ground.
There was an awkward silence between them on the way down, Spade shuffled his feet as Charon leaned side on to the lift doors. He kept looking at her face but her mind appeared to be elsewhere, she seemed to snap out of it though when the opposite wall of the lift opened, Spade, slightly confused by the lift having doors either side spun suddenly and was faced with walking out into pitch blackness. He froze, fearing he had been tricked. However, Charon merely strolled out into the dark and he could her her whispering the command "on" somewhere. Lights blinked on, illuminating the tunnel which he noticed was coated? He wasn't sure whether it was coated with something or whether it was panelled? He had never seen anything like it before. He followed it round until it opened out into a huge cavernous like room, the room was stuffed with technology. Wires snaked from the ceiling down to banks and banks of server towers, wide screen monitors were attached to every inch of the walls and as they blinked on they showed split screen images of every different part of Death Mansion.
Workbenches took up a good part of the room and they were littered with technology that Spade had only ever heard about. Circuit boards were everywhere, attached with wires, capacitors and stuff that he'd never seen before. He walked slowly to allow himself time to take it all in. She'd certainly been busy.
Charon called him from the other side of the room where there was a pair of glass sliding doors, they hissed open as he approached and this time he was faced with a smaller room but just as stuffed with technology, this time computers, or rather one large computer. Server towers took up one whole side of the room, wires were strung everywhere and again the strange walls, they seemed to glint. He put out his hand to touch it, he re-tracted his hand suddenly, it was alive but how could that be?
Charon was sat in the chair facing the computer monitor, she tapped in a few commands, he heard something mechanical begin to whirr, a slight thunk and then he was following Charon again, out of the room and further into the depth of the Earth. He chastised himself for being so melodramatic.
There was yet another chamber, this one had finished gadgets and gizmo's, Spade's eyes widen just ever so slightly. Charon gestured round at the array of items.
"Feel free to browse, but be warned, make sure you read the instructions before messing about with them. If you're not sure what something means, I suggest you ask. Augustus can be a bit cryptic sometimes. While you do that, I'll poke around and see if I can find what I need."
Spade wasn't sure whether to touch anything and confined himself to merely reading the instructions for items named "Hole maker" and "Time stopper" The titles were quite odd but their uses were extremely interesting. Charon was rummagaing through boxes stacked at the side of the room. Spade watched her intermittently, curious.
"Charon?"
Charon continued to rummage but answered.
"Darkspade?"
He chuckled. Sometimes he actually missed being called Dorkspud or other insults she often levelled at him.
"What is all this stuff for anyway?"
She shrugged.
"No idea really. I get an idea for something that might be useful and Augustus will build it. Sometimes it works like its supposed to, sometimes it doesn't."
He put the Earth Ripper down.
"AH HA!! Here we are. Come on Spadey boy, lets find Gojinn! You know something, I really don't like that bloke."
Spade followed her back through to the room with the glass doors.
"Whats that called?"
Charon looked at the label to see what Augustus had named it.
"The People Extractor. All it really does is pin point a persons location using their own energy and lets you know if they are using other energies, potion or magick or all of the above. I have no idea how it works though. Augustus showed me how to attach it to the computer and how to fire it up."
Spade suspected there was more to it than she was telling him but he waited patiently while the thing booted up......
