The soil of a man's heart is stonier

Deadblood rolled his eyes, and went to collect two more bottles and set them up on the ledge. He stood back, and crossed his arms, shooting her an annoyed look.

“See if you can hit THESE two. Without telekinesis,” He specified, drawing his words out slowly. “One of these days you might find yourself wishing you’d spent more time practicing your marksmanship, Sheri.”

Sheri rolled her eyes right back at him even though he coudn’t see them from under the helmet, pulling her gun from her side and training it on the first bottle. She pulled the trigger, shattering the bottle.

“Not bad. The other one?” He repled as she groaned and aimed for the second. This time she missed however, the bullet striking the ledge and missing the bottle.

“Don’t even say it, Champ, it’s the fucking helmet.” She warned, firing again and missing, this time hitting the side of the brick building across from them. Deadblood couldn’t help but chuckle.

“Okay, okay. No more. But you and I are going to the range later this week.” She gave him a cross look in response, the second bottle flying up into the air before crashing down onto the roof and violently shattering. “You’ll thank me one day, Sheri.”

“Sure I will,” She muttered from under the helmet. She was about to say something about how he should be thanking her for several things when the police scanner sounded off inside the helmet.

“Unit 678. We have two on the 1400 block of east 22nd, Causcasian females, both deceased. No suspect on the scene. Request back up and a van, over.”

“10-4, dispatching back up and coroner, stand by 678. Over.”

“Did you hear me, Sheri? I said I know you don’t like going to the range but afterwar-” She held up her hand to cut him off, still listening to the scanner for a moment longer before pulling the helmet off.

“They say there are two dead women over on east 22nd. No suspect in sight. That’s not even a mile away from her, Champ.”

“What? Are you serious? Where on 22nd?” He asked, wondering if whoever had killed those women might not still be near by. Maybe they were even directly below them now, slinking through the alleyway in an attempt to evade the police.

“He said on the 1200 block. That’s really close.”

“Let’s go check it out. Can’t hurt. He might still be around, hiding.” Deadblood said, holstering his guns and starting down the fire escape. "If we do run into the killer, better hope we don't have to rely on your shooting tonight."

"Shut up, Champ," she groaned, starting down the stairs after him "I'm more worried about you and that damned Batman gun than anything else."
