Charon began to laugh.

"Go ahead, kill me but Augustus and Moebius will simply take my place and Kali and Kizmat will spare nothing along with Gray to take you all out in the end. Give it up, Markus is dead your Queen Bitch has so little power here now she may as well be dead. Go on, slice and dice."

Fein, however, had forgotten something important, he'd just killed Charons opponent which technically made her the winner of the match, this meant that all magical spells binding her had now been lifted.

Her eyes went black as the shadows began to gather around her, Fein realising rather slowly what was happening attempted to run her through with the sword but her body was no longer a solid object, it was made entirely of shadow and her shape was now shifting. She'd grown to an enormous height and Mortis's hand dropped impotently to the canvas floor. There was a low roaring noise which was building slowly, Fein tried to back away but was trapped in a prison of his own making and then Charon lifted him high off the canvas with a shadowy hand and slammed him right down into the portal Morty had disappeared to just moments earlier. She conjured some crackling, dark, shadow energy and shot it at the portal and it closed behind them both. Just as quickly as she'd transformed, she was back to normal and collapsed to the canvas exhausted. She crawled over to where Markus was bleeding to death, she couldn't save him but she could sit with him and hold his hand, help him to accept death not as a final journey but as a new beginning.

Markus was shivering and staring into space when she reached him, she took his hand in hers.

"Markus, listen to me, can you hear me?"

His teeth were clenched but his eyes turned toward her and he nodded.

"I'm dying."

Charon bit her lip.

"Yes. I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do, I can't help you and you saved my life. Just remember who you are now and forget about before, forget about Evangelion. It doesn't matter who your parents are or were, it only matters that you've shown me who you truly could be, you've shown the World Markus, you helped save this World from some of the most scheming bastards in existence!"

A tear slid down her face, she rarely cried if at all but something about Markus, the way he looked, the way he now seemed vunerable and alone scared her. She felt bad for him and she felt helpless to save him after he'd sacrificed a chance of life to save her. A couple of tears fell right onto Markus's chest as he took one last rattling breath and his eyes slid closed and he ceased to breath or see any more of the World around him.

One consolation was at least he died free, she sat back on the canvas, exhausted and alone at last. She wiped the tears from her face and grabbed the remote sat blinking at her and depressed the button and the cage slid up. Paramedics, officials and referee's piled into the octagon, Charon stood there staring for some time, she felt numb and she certainly didn't feel as though she'd won anything. She finally climbed out of the ring, bloodied, bruised and deeply disturbed.
