You do your body work, I feel my pulse working overtime.
Sheri was just about to complain to Deadblood about how boring it was to watch Red hanging around outside a gym and suggest something more interesting when Red suddenly decided it was time to move. He turned and briskly walked away from the gym and down the alley nearby, appearing to melt into the shadows. He clearly had tons of experience when it came to stalking, and Sheri was sure that if she hadn’t seen him herself turn down the alley she’d never know he was there.
Imediately after Red made his move, an young woman wearing tight spandex shorts and a tshirt exited the gym, her dark hair tied up in a high ponytail. She was obviously fresh out of her workout, her skin glowing with exertion and perspiration still on her forehead.
She started down the street, gym bag in tow, heading towards a cluster of apartment buildings not far from the gym.
“I wonder where she got that bag. I wanted one like that a while back, but the stores were all sold out.” Sheri mused, as they watched her go. Deadblood was about to say something about how only Sheri would be thinking about shopping during a stakeout, whe Red slipped effortlessly from the alley and began to tail the oblivious woman.
“Something tells me he in’t following her to ask her where she got her bag,” Deadblood mused, slowly putting the car into gear to follow Red. “She doesn’t look like a prostitute, but maybe he is bored with slaughtering hookers and decided to branch out.”
“I think you’re right on that. She’d have to be a very successful hooker to afford that bag and those sneakers.” Sheri agreed. Deadblood waited a bit longer before slowly pulling the car out and merging with traffic, staying far enough back to not draw attention to them, but still keep Red in sight.
The woman turned down a side street, heading for The Vines, a very exclusive complex. Just more proof that she wasn’t a hooker, no working girl in the city could afford to live there no matter how many clients she had. Red stopped at the corner, giving her a moment to go on ahead before continuing to stalk her.
Deadblood slowed down as well before turning, just in time to see the woman approach the gate as Red dissapeared down another alley close by.
“I think we should stop and warn her.” Sheri said, reaching for the door handle. Deadblood gave her an incredulous look.
“Well blow our cover if you do that,” he warned, keeping his eyes peeled for Red to emerge from the alleyway. “Just stay in the car. When he comes out, we’ll deal with him.”
“Deadblood, he’s right there! She’s about to have to stop at the gate, and he’ll likely strike then while she’s putting in the code. Or he’ll watch and go up after her later. Let’s stop now, and warn her. If he decides to come on out, we’ll have him!” Sheri rolled down the window before Deadblood could protest, calling for the woman, who ignored her.
“Way to go Sheri. Now he knows we are here.” Deadblood groaned, shaking his head. Sheri called for her again, and when she didn’t reply Sheri opened the door and started off towards her. Deadblood cursed, pilling up to the curb and getting out to follow Sheri. If Red decided to strike now, he didn’t want her out there alone considering what had happened the last time she encountered him. Knowing Red he might see her interfering as a chance to rack up a bonus body.
“Miss,” Sheri called, as the woman continued ahead. Sheri jogged up closer, tapping her on the shoulder. The woman spun around, a look of surprise on her face. She had earbuds in Sheri could see now, which explained her lack of response earlier.
“Do I know you?” The woman asked, clearly confused. Sheri shook her head, pointing towards the alley.
“No, you don’t. The question is, do you know the guy that was just following you?” Sheri answered, as Deadblood started towards the alley for Red.
“Him? I’ve never seen him in my life. What are you talking about?” The woman said, motioning towards Deadblood. Sheri shook her head.
“No, the man that was following you from the gym. Real tall, dark hair, looks like a psycho.”
